Boal & Co Smashes Charity Cycle Challenge with Incredible 230-Mile Achievement

May 8, 2026 · 2 min read

A determined team of Boal colleagues, guests and supporters came together to cycle an outstanding 230 miles in just 12 hours, raising funds and awareness for two important Isle of Man charities; Isle Listen and Bridge the Gap IOM.

On Friday 8th May, the Boal & Co team set off for a 12-hour charity cycling challenge, with colleagues taking turns in the saddle throughout the day. By 3pm, the original target of 150 miles had already been achieved, but driven by an overwhelming team spirit and commitment to the cause, participants kept going until the challenge concluded at 7pm. The final distance? An incredible 230 miles.

The challenge was organised in support of Isle Listen and Bridge the Gap IOM, two charities making a significant difference across the Island through their work supporting mental health and wellbeing.

The day got off to a flying start with colleague James Bassett from Boal & Co's International Pensions team, whose experience as an ultra-marathon runner helped set the pace for the challenge. Within hours, the team had already surpassed 65 miles, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm, camaraderie and healthy competition.

As the miles continued to mount, individual achievements helped drive the challenge forward. Guest cyclist John Beaty from DotPerformance completed an impressive 13.14 miles in just 30 minutes, while Boal & Co actuarial intern Henry powered the team beyond the 150-mile milestone.

The event also received fantastic support from the wider community. Guest cyclists from DotPerformance and Castletown Cricket Club joined the challenge throughout the day, helping maintain momentum and contributing valuable miles to the final total. Members of Castletown Cricket Club alone added almost 12 miles during their visit.

Representatives from both Isle Listen and Bridge the Gap IOM stopped by during the event, providing encouragement and highlighting the impact that fundraising and awareness initiatives such as this can have for local charities.

We are incredibly proud of the determination, passion and teamwork shown throughout the day and hopeful that the challenge will make a meaningful contribution towards both fundraising and awareness for the two charities.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in an extraordinary day of teamwork, generosity and community spirit and specaial thank you to Elite Fitness which generously provided the exercise bike for the challenge.
