Student Actuary (Temporary position)

We are currently recruiting for a student actuary, based in our Isle of Man office. This is a temporary role that would suit either a student currently studying for an actuarial degree as a placement opportunity, or a recent A level leaver or graduate looking to gain an understanding of what an actuarial role entails.

At Boal & Co, our customers are our primary focus and our busy administration teams supported by our actuarial team are key to providing excellent customer service. The actuarial team provides support for day-to-day matters arising with various Boal & Co administered pension schemes together with specific actuarial reporting.

Duties can include:

  • Pension calculations for defined benefit and defined contribution schemes
  • Cash equivalent transfer value calculations for defined benefit schemes
  • Annual benefit statements for DC section of corporate schemes and personal pension scheme
  • Calculating annual increases to pensions for corporate DB pension schemes
  • Calculating and analysing pension scheme liability cashflows
  • Quarterly and annual investment reporting to the board
  • Adhoc consultancy tasks
  • Preparing pension scheme accounts
  • General pension scheme administration

Essential Skills , Experience and Qualifications

  • Able to work independently and to tight deadlines
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office, including Excel
  • Excellent communication and personal skills with a strong customer service ethic and willingness to learn
  • A level or higher qualification in maths and or business subjects (or working towards)
  • Strong GCSEs results including Maths and English
